Founder – CEO

Being a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) drove Meera from a conventional life as a school teacher to founding a PAN-India NGO for the empowerment of the Deaf individuals. Sign Language is her first language and she has a life long experience of working as an interpreter. She served as an anchor on the National Network of Doordarshan (DD) for Bulletins for the Hearing Impaired for about 26 years. Moreover, she is a Special Educator (Hearing Impaired) by qualification from Kurukshetra University which enables her to pursue education for children with disabilities in a meaningful way.

Meera is a National Awardee for exceptional contribution in Placements of Persons with Disabilities (2014). She has also received the Helen Keller Award from NCPEDP (2010) and the Jazbaa Women Award for excellence in sign language (2016).

With 30 years of experience as an activist & interpreter along of 15 years of professional expedition in the development sector, she believes in co-opting with persons with Disabilities, nudging change in collaboration with the community.

She has been actively involved in policy advocacy & formulation with the Department of People with Disabilities(MSJE)

• Committee Member, Task Force for the Early Intervention and Parent Sensitization for Deaf individuals

Our Team

Sai Swayam Society has been a pioneer in promoting the employment of persons with disabilities in India. Firstly, in the spirit of “nothing about us without us” and with the intention of leading by example, the team of SSS has always had 51% or more employees with disabilities from 2006 till present.

With a core team of about 18 individuals and an extended PAN India team of upto 40 members, Sai Swayam Society functions proudly based on people, passion and purpose. From Special Educators to Sign Language Interpreters, from Deaf Trainers to Development Professionals – a vast rainbow of individuals build the robust team of SSS.
